his year our Ordre Mondial des Gourmets Dégustateurs (OMGD) group celebrated St. Patrick’s Day in style. There was a free flow of beer from over 1000 different labels at a casual event called an “Educational Beer Dinner.”
Exchanging tuxedos and evening gowns for smart casual and setting aside a gourmet menu for deep-fried foods and barbeque pork ribs, we celebrated the Irish Saint’s holiday with shots of green beer and party favours.
Then the free flow began. Members sampled beers from all over the world. Some of the more exotic tastes included coconut, caramel apple, peanut butter, and dark chocolate.
Bringing a bit of gravitas to the event, prior to dinner being served, the restaurant owner presented a lesson on how beer is made, including instructions on how to make your own brew at home.
As the festive night rolled on, there was a sort of youthful excitement in the air as members partook freely of draft beers served by the staff and of bottled beers from refrigerators lining the restaurant.
At the end of the evening a fun time had certainly been had by all and it is probably safe to say that we had our fill of beer for several weeks to come!
