Celebrating World Chaîne Day with a Grand Gala and a menu that literally spanned the globe, the Bailliages of Shanghai and Hangzhou joined efforts to bring members and their guests together for this spectacular event at the St. Regis Shanghai Jing’an. On arrival everyone received the new Bailliage of China World Chaîne Day pins for their ribbons and enjoyed champagne with canapes in the grand foyer of the ballroom.
With members coming from several countries a myriad of languages could be heard as many met for the first time. This was evidence that the Chaîne is truly without borders. As an example, attending from the Bahamas (Bailliage of USA) was Dame de la Chaîne Helene Seligman, who happened to be in Shanghai and was therefore elated to join in the world celebration. Many new friends and future Chaîne members attended through SPD Bank’s sponsorship of the Gala Dinner. They were honoured to be a part of this once-a-year opportunity to join our culinary feast.
As the ballroom doors opened the band played the theme of “Rocky”. There was excitement in the air as members anticipated a world-travelling experience for their taste buds. Head Chef Cesar A. Perez de Anda came to the stage to introduce his concept of a menu sourced and inspired by the world.
Each dish and each wine pairing were absolutely perfect. Bailli Délégué Allen Wong presented the hotel with the Bailliage’s Plaque of Appreciation, then the festivities continued with dancing to the sounds of the “Shanghai International Combo Band”.
However, the evening did not stop there as an after party continued the celebrations in the hotel’s champagne bar, where a private tasting session of Rémy-Martin’s famed Louis XIII Cognac was served to about 50 members.
Overall, it was a wonderful night successfully celebrating World Chaîne Day and enhancing the camaraderie and the high culinary standards our society upholds.
